Materials
- Seed beads (size 6/0 or 8/0) in your desired colors
- Cross pendant (available at craft stores or online)
- Beading wire (24-26 gauge)
- Beading needle
- Scissors
- Crimp beads (optional)
- Jump rings (optional)
- Clasp (optional)
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Choose your beads and pendant. The type of beads and pendant you choose will depend on your personal style and the occasion for which you're making the cross. For a classic look, opt for white or gold beads and a silver or gold cross pendant. For a more bohemian vibe, choose colorful beads and a wooden or leather cross pendant.
- Cut a length of beading wire. The length of wire you need will depend on the size of your cross pendant and the length of necklace you want to make. A good rule of thumb is to cut a piece of wire that is about twice the desired length of the necklace.
- Thread the beading needle onto the wire. Make sure the needle is pointed in the correct direction so that the beads won't fall off.
- Add seed beads to the wire. Start by adding a few seed beads to the wire, leaving a small space at the end for the cross pendant. The number of beads you add will depend on the size of your pendant and the desired length of the cross.
- Add the cross pendant. Once you have added enough seed beads, slide the cross pendant onto the wire. Make sure the pendant is centered on the wire.
- Continue adding seed beads. Continue adding seed beads to the wire, leaving a small space at the end for the clasp.
- Secure the wire. Once you have added all of the beads, secure the wire by passing it through the last few beads and pulling it tight. Trim any excess wire.
- Add a clasp (optional). If you want to wear your beaded cross as a necklace, you can add a clasp. Simply attach a jump ring to each end of the wire and connect them to the clasp.
Finishing Touches
- Crimp beads. If you want to add extra security to your cross, you can use crimp beads. Simply slide a crimp bead onto the wire before you secure it. Crimp the bead with a pair of pliers to flatten it and hold the wire in place.
- Embellishments. You can also add embellishments to your beaded cross, such as charms, pendants, or tassels. Simply attach the embellishments to the wire with jump rings.
Congratulations! You have now created a beautiful and unique beaded cross. This versatile piece can be worn as a necklace, bracelet, or even hung as a decoration. Whether you're making it for yourself or as a gift, this beaded cross is sure to be cherished for years to come.
